The RM 72-01 marked the brand's first automatic movement with an in-house flyback function developed start to finish by Richard Mille itself — the CRMC1 calibre, built around a patented double oscillating pinion system that isolates the chronograph mechanism from timekeeping, so activating the stopwatch never disturbs the watch's underlying accuracy. Flyback means the chronograph resets and restarts in a single press, without needing to stop it first — a function usually reserved for pilots' and professional timing instruments.
